For the Multicultural Kid Blogger’s World Cup series, I am presenting Ecuador!!! Here’s an introduction to their soccer team, followed by an Ecuador profile, and some activities to share with your kids:

Capital: Quito
Provinces: 24 provinces
Language: Spanish, Quichua, Shuar, and other indigenous languages
Independence Day: May 24, 1822 (from Spain)
Popular Holidays: New Years (Jan 1), Día de Reyes (Jan 6), Carnival and Holy Week (varies), Batalla del Pichincha (May 24- Independence Day), Corpus Cristi (June), San Juan Bautista (Jun 24), San Pedro y San Pablo (Jun 29), Día de Muertos (Nov 2), Noche Buena (Christmas Eve, Dec 24).
Physical Geography: Bordered by the Colombia in the north, Peru in the south and east; Coastline with the Pacific Ocean in the west. The mountain range that runs the length of the country is the Andes Mountains, the longest mountain range in the world. The melting snow in the Andes that flow to the east eventually are tributaries to the Amazon River.

Every time Ecuador plays I will post a new activity to learn more about the beautiful Ecuadorian culture:). I fell in love with the country when I studied abroad there in college, and I can’t wait to share some with my readers.
