Teachers change lives! When you think back to your childhood, can you think of a teacher who woke up your curiosity and inspired you to dream big? Do you have a favorite teacher that believed in you, challenged and pushed you- or has changed the lives of your children?
Office Depot and Adopt-A-Classroom have partnered to raise awareness about teachers, and all that they do in the lives of their students. They’ve found teachers who will inspire you (to tears!), using innovative techniques and activities to accomplish amazing feats with their students.
Take Brian Copes, a pre-engineering teacher at Calera High School, Alabama. Taking service learning to a new level, he pushes his students to shift their focus from themselves to others. Brian’s students make prosthetic limbs out of old car and bike parts, and even help make utility vehicles for people in Honduras!
Watch this short clip on how Brian Copes is changing lives- not only his students’, but also those in Honduras. By getting involved in a specific cause, children take away profound lessons as they become more aware of the local and global community in need:
Around the world, teachers are creating innovating lessons and spending money every year out of their own pocket. You can donate to Brian Copes, the teacher highlighted in the video, or a teacher in your local community through Adopt-A-Classroom, a nonprofit organization that helps connect donors with teachers to enhance the learning environment for students.
