Last summer I had the idea to make a short video about global citizenship. I began asking kids how we could make the world a better place and what makes you a global citizen. Using their ideas, I created a script and put out a call on facebook to all of our followers to see who would be interested in participating. We had a tremendous response from all corners of the globe and the videos kept coming!
Global Citizenship Video for Kids
We asked kids from around the world to help us share what it means to have global citizenship: we got a fantastic response, and saw the kids want to take care of our planet, take care of each other, and that we are all connected. I hope you enjoy it! If you’d like to participate in our next video this summer, stay connected on facebook for announcements and calls for action. Enjoy this video and see below for all of the countries, cultures, and languages represented!
What is a World Citizen?
To complement the video, we’ve made a free activity for kids: “What is a World Citizen?” The world is a diverse and interconnected place where objects, ideas, and people are constantly on the move. At Kid World Citizen, we believe we can prepare our children to be active, responsible “world citizens” by teaching them about a variety of cultural practices and beliefs. This activity uses the above video as a springboard for a discussion about what it means to be a “world citizen.” Students can then use the downloadable coloring sheet to write or draw about their role in our global society. This is a great beginning of the year activity, writing prompt, or bulletin board display.
