Little Passports is a clever, age-appropriate tool to teach your kids about geography without ever leaving your home. We have had so much fun, starting from the moment my kids recognize the envelope and rush to see which country is stamped on the outside, and trying to feel through the padded paper to guess what little souvenir Sam and Sofia sent them.
When you order this monthly package from Little Passports, it starts with a cute turquoise suitcase, on which you can connect your month luggage tags and collect your stickers. You also get a blank passport, and a huge world map (to mark your destinations!).
Every package includes the following ways to explore the highlighted country:
- A letter sent from Sam and Sofia, that tell your child of the sights and experiences they had traveling in this country
- An activity sheet with games and quizzes, word finds or word scrambles- all based on important cultural aspects of the country
- A picture from the country that ties into their letter
- A souvenir from the country: we got a kit to excavate a treasure from an Egyptian pyramid, a neat bird whistle from South Africa, a piece of amethyst from Brazil, a cool scratch art project from Australia, and an incredible origami kit from Japan!
Each month you also receive a passport stamp, a sticker for your suitcase, a little sticker of a pushpin to mark your destination on the large map, and a luggage tag that serves as your “boarding pass” for access to online content about the country. The on-line content is awesome- there are map activities, trivia, and games for kids to play to learn about that month’s country. Between the actual package and the on-line activities, there are so many geography and cultural lessons! For even more learning throughout the month, check out these extension activities.
Though I use it with my kids as an after-school enrichment activity, Little Passports would also be awesome for a classroom (I’m thinking of gifting this to my son’s teacher next year for the holidays).
