The first adorable snack was NOT mine:). Guess where my friends found the idea? Pinterest of course!!!!! The owl pellet one was too funny to skip- we were slap-happy when we were making it. The kids thought it was funny too and kept pretending to choke on hair and bones (GROSS!).

I think the masks and gloves would be a great idea- I don’t want to know what I inhaled that day! That’s a cool idea to glue the skeletons on black construction paper- my kids saved their bones, so we might have to do that:).

I had done this with 5th graders, but last year I did it with first graders! They had so much fun, and as you said, there is no sweeter sound than that of kids excited about science! The only thing I did differently, was the kids used masks and gloves while doing this.
At the end they put their resources together to glue the skeletons to black construction paper to put on the bulletin board outside the classroom!

It was so, so fun. My kids really like this type of messy, hands on science: the “gross-er” the better:). They were running around chasing each other with the skulls shouting “I’m a mole! I’m going to eat you!”

I loved this post (and your warning at the top). I had no idea that you could order owl pellets let alone bone identification sheets to go along with them – that is so awesome.
