As you may know, Day of the Dead- Día de los Muertos– is a holiday celebrated in Mexico, some other countries in Latin America, a few countries in Europe, and the Philippines. The Day of the Dead remembers people who have died, as families and friends create altars and offerings in their homes on a table or shelves to pay tribute to their loved ones who have passed on. In Mexico, skeletons are decorated, dressed-up, and given personalities and activities. Learning about Day of the Dead is an opportunity to learn about a bit of Mexican culture with your students or kids.
