It was great! The whole family got together. My mother came to US in 1937 and it was her Christmas with her mother and siblings since that time. It was a trip of a lifetime! I still have lovely memories of that time.

What a cool experience, thank you for sharing! I would love to visit Bratislava or a more rural area during Christmastime- I bet it’s magical!

I visited Vienna a few times but once I went to Slovakia I had never returned to Vienna on christmass .. Bratislava is small – everything on one place, a lot of traditions and shows and dancing and Christmass singing .. great drinks and Exclusive Slovak dishes for half the Austrian prices!!! You can´t get that quality and taste anywhere in Europe. I am glad not many foreigners know it so there is no fuzz .. 😉 I would like to visit some more traditional region in Slovakia not the capital but some smaller town with more Slovak traditions. I think I fell in love with a small country ..

I am so glad you liked it! I think maintaining cultural traditions is so important- what a gift to future generations. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas:).

Eastern Slovak customs and traditions. I am one of 6 children and the only one who continues to keep these sweet precious customs alive!
I hope to make another visit to moje rodina in the Hummene area and I would like it to be for Christmas time. Vessele Vianoce! Thank for this web site.

I remember eating the big wafers with honey in them. They sold them everywhere. Even now, I buy them when I find them in the grocery store.
