The people who stay in the city during the holiday are usually a bit alternative, so they have a Zombie Walk. I went on this years walk with my young son and you can read about it here http://headoftheheard.com/2014/03/05/carnival-in-curitiba-zombie-walk/

YES! Galveston has a huge parade every year!! We have missed it for some reason or another every year, but our friends come back with buckets of beads and say the kids have a blast!!! I need to make sure to go next year!:)

Wow – I lived in Houston for awhile, too, and am surprised that Mardi Gras was celebrated as your children’s school! Never was at mine. 🙁 What about Galveston? That’s another place that celebrates carnival, Texas-style!

I did not grow up near New Orleans, but now that we live in Houston I learned about King’s Cake, and my children’s school had a parade with beads, etc:). It is so fun!! One day I hope to make it to New Orleans to see the real deal!:)
