Most of the books listed in the article talk about the animals collectively as llamas. So the way I understand it, yes, they are from the Camelidae family. As a group the 4 types are called &quot;Lamoids,&quot; (sometimes spelled llamoids) but it&#039;s more common to refer to them as llamas. I am guessing (but this is only a guess!) that it is because their genus is &quot;lama,&quot; which used to be interchangeable with llama.
